Editorial

In recent weeks, the temperatures have increased in the central zone, allowing a faster pace of ripening of the fruit and harvests. Thus, the early varieties are at the peak of harvest in the south central zone and the mid-season varieties are already beginning. The south zone is also starting although is still concentrated in the Araucanía region. In some cases, the harvest has been limited due to lack of labor, which has been accentuated during the month of December with the entry into production of other fruits, generating at this time greater competition for the availability of pickers.

In relation to exports, the peak weeks of departures from Chile began within what was expected in week 49, although with a lower volume that reached 4,533 tons. This figure is lower than expected, in part because two ships could not load containers in San Antonio port, therefore these volumes were allocated in the shipments of week 50. Considering the above, the accumulated volumes up to the week 49 are 15,082 tons, 18% less than the previous season at the same week. With respect to the organic blueberries, they reached a total of 3,781 tons, 16% more than the previous season.

Crop Update by Zone

North Zone (IV and V Regions)
Volumes continue to decline. The harvest is in its final stage.

Central Zone (MR and VI Regions)
This week the harvest took more rhythm, thanks to an increase in temperatures. The early varieties have passed the peak and the mid-season varieties reaching more volumes.

South Central Zone (VII, XVI and VIII Regions)
The south central zone is at the peak of the harvest of early varieties such as Duke and the mid-season varieties are beginning.

South Zone (IX, X and XIVRegions)
The harvest in this area is still focused on the Araucanía region, in early varieties.
