Crop and Export Report 2020, Week 5

EDITORIAL

As of the issuance of this report, 9,467 tons have been exported during week 51. This can be influenced by different aspects, on the one hand, the official data load may not yet be fully updated, since normally this process ends at the end of the following week and in this case, the publication of this report has been anticipated since it is a holiday on Friday 25th, therefore the data may not yet be complete. Although there may be information pending to be imputed, the effect of the lack of pickers these days may be affecting the shipment volumes, since the Maule and Biobio regions are the ones that show the greatest differential in the exports of week 51 compared to the previous season. These regions have a high concentration of cherry orchards in full harvest and are attracting large numbers of harvesters in this period.

All in all, the accumulated volumes up to week 51 reached 36,483 tons, 8% less than the previous season at the same week. Another point to mention is that this season has an extra week, ending in week 53, which will be reflected in the tables and shipment charts for the next edition. Regarding the destination markets, 49% of the shipments have been exported to North America, 35% to Europe and 15% to the Far East. All show a drop compared to the previous season, North America with a decrease of 25% in volumes, Europe 15% and the Far East 42%.

Regarding the organic blueberries, a slight drop in shipments during week 51 is reported, however the accumulated exported to date is 19% higher than the previous season, with 5,224 tons shipped so far.

The editorial team wishes you all a Merry Christmas !!!
